Potato Chip Rock is one of the most famous mountains in San Diego. I think that distinction is well deserved. It is a well-managed hiking trail with breathtaking views of the natural alleyways below. Once at the destination, you can take photos with the star attraction, the potato shaped stone that sits regally on top of the mountain peak. This is why so many people recognize and love this mountain.
The hike is a long 10.1 mile hike, so it is essential to start early in the morning. The first one hour road trek to the lake is beautifully serene. After I engaged in a week’s work of greeting my peers, we arrived at Poway Lake. There, we were able to see the sun gradually rise through the mist shrouded mountain.
The slope begins from the lake. Because of the memorable rustic scenery, we could not delay our hike, we immediately geared up and moved forward. After following a neatly kept train for about 3 hours, we finally saw what we were looking for, the Potato Chip Rock, in all her majestic glory, right at the mountain top.
Potato Chip Rock is absolutely one of the best photo zones in San Diego. Though you will have to wait 20 to 30 minutes though to take a picture. But this wait is well worth the time. You can brag about the photos you took here to your family and friends. I am sure you will get an awed reaction.
We finished up by having a simple barbeque in the park because one of my companions was leaving the United States for a while. Even though it has been a tough week, I think that when I experience a great view while eating delicious food with good people, is healing for me. This feeling of healing makes me cherish this moment even more.
